Martensitic Stainless Steels

These grades offer better erosion or wear resistance because of the high hardness values that can be obtained through heat treatment. They do provide some corrosion resistance; however are not as resistant as the austenitic grades.

Alloy Properties
Representative Alloys CA15, CA6NM.
Applications For good wear & corrosion
Limitations CA15 is prone to cracking in heavy sections; special procedures improve stress corrosion cracking resistance
Typical Uses Aerospace, gas turbines, marine, petro-chemical, pulp and paper, food processing
Machinability Fair to good, based on grade & conditions
Weldability Requires post-weld stress relief
Corrosion Resistance Good in mildly corrosive environments; good erosion resistance, some grades have very good resistance to cavitations
