Martensitic Stainless Steels
These grades offer better erosion or wear resistance because of the high hardness values that can be obtained through heat treatment. They do provide some corrosion resistance; however are not as resistant as the austenitic grades.
| Alloy Properties | |
|---|---|
| Representative Alloys | CA15, CA6NM. |
| Applications | For good wear & corrosion |
| Limitations | CA15 is prone to cracking in heavy sections; special procedures improve stress corrosion cracking resistance |
| Typical Uses | Aerospace, gas turbines, marine, petro-chemical, pulp and paper, food processing |
| Machinability | Fair to good, based on grade & conditions |
| Weldability | Requires post-weld stress relief |
| Corrosion Resistance | Good in mildly corrosive environments; good erosion resistance, some grades have very good resistance to cavitations |
